Classroom Interpreting

Students - Interpreting and the Internet

Interpreting services are now available on the internet. With internet access and a web camera, individuals who sign can access an interpreter over the internet. With the support of a Web camera and a computer, or a videophone and a television, users contact a video interpreter (VI), who translates and voices the user's signs to the called party. No typing is required.

Students should have access to new technology related to interpreting and understand how to use it. Families should have access to information about obtaining this technology for their homes. Often, community programs will provide the equipment free of charge.
